This Help Emma Walk blog is intended to keep you up-to-date with what is happening during Emma’s journey, and how she is progressing. We know that so many of you have literally invested in her future, invested in her better quality of life, and we want to ensure that you are able to track your investment. Emma will undergo SDR (selective dorsal rhizotomy) on August 10th. Her doctors have said that they “…strongly recommend the SDR surgery for Emma…” and that the “…permanent reduction in abnormal muslce tone will help her very significantly.” They have also stated that “If she has the surgery [they] would expect the following improvements:
- Her sitting and standing postures will improve
- Her walking balance will improve
- She will most likely be able to walk with crutches in all environments
- Her level of comfort will all improve”
Of course, only time will tell, and we will do our best to keep you informed via this blog site as to the developments.
